Have you ever started a project or began learning a new skill, then stopped, started again, stopped, then just couldn’t let it go and started yet again? I think many of us have been in this situation over the years. I stepped away from writing, posting on social media, and making artwork for awhile, but I kept coming back and learning more about how to utilize my creativity and artistic ability to launch a business. It has been quite a journey with lots of twists and turns, lots of learning, and a lot of aha moments. I feel pretty confident in calling myself an artist these days and I actually sold a few pieces of artwork last year. It has taken reading more books, doing more research, making more art, taking more classes, delving into mindset work, learning how to be an entrepreneur, honing my creative skills, finding clarity, and finding my voice. It has been a wild ride, but so well worth it.
During all this learning I gained a great appreciation for the creative process. While making my art I began to feel more confident in my decisions on color, placement, design, and the overall vibe and feeling I wanted to portray in my artwork. I began to trust myself and the process and allowed whatever came forth to be. The beauty of creating abstract art is that there is no right or wrong, it doesn’t have to look like anything you have ever seen before, and it can take you on an emotional journey.
In the next couple of months, I will be talking a lot about creativity and the roles it plays in our lives. Creativity is a broad term and has many varied definitions, but simply put, it is the ability to make new things or think of new ideas. Everyone has the potential to develop creative skills. There are a multitude of benefits to be gained by thinking differently and doing something differently.
